Fukortsin or brilliant green - which antiseptic to choose

Why do we need fucorcin?

Fukortsin is the same antiseptic as potassium permanganate, brilliant green, hydrogen peroxide, iodine, furatsilin. Translated from Latin, “anti” means against, “septicus” means rotting. Many harmful bacteria instantly form on damaged tissues. And under the influence of antiseptics they die. That's why when we get abrasions and scratches, we need an antiseptic, for example, fucorcin. In addition, fucorcin disinfects and acts as an antifungal agent.

Application: fucorcin solution is applied with a cotton swab or cotton pad to the skin 2-4 times a day. After complete drying, ointment or cream is applied to the treated area.

You should be careful: in large quantities the drug causes side effects (read the instructions for use carefully).

There is colorless fukortsin : it is more convenient to use, but less effective.

Fukortsin or Zelenka – which is better?

The differences between these two drugs are determined by the difference in composition. To understand which of them is more effective and safer, the advantages of each should be separately identified.

Pros of greenery:

  • more indications for use (including eye diseases);
  • fewer contraindications - can be used by pregnant and lactating women;
  • a less toxic drug (the phenol in Fukortsin can cause poisoning if applied to large areas of the skin);
  • greater variety of packaging, making it easier to use.

Advantages of Fukortsin:

  • wider spectrum of antimicrobial activity due to the multicomponent composition;
  • less permanent coloring (washes off the body faster than brilliant green);
  • lower price.

Non-medical uses[edit | edit code]

It is considered suitable for graffiti, as it is difficult to erase (the durability of the pattern on the skin makes it possible to use fukortsin for marking the patient’s skin during radiation therapy of tumors). Particularly noticeable on matte surfaces. In combination with greenery it gives a black-blue color. It is most often used for refilling markers (felt-tip pens). Also used for marking laboratory animals.

If necessary, fucorcin can be decolorized with a saturated solution of aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid).

The drug Fukortsin, known to many since childhood, is often called “red brilliant green” in everyday life, because it, like a solution of brilliant green, when used, colors the skin, but not green, but red. Fukortsin - composition and properties

Another name for the medicine in question is Castellani liquid. This solution is a rich dark red color and has a specific, recognizable odor. The product is packaged in darkened glass bottles, which some manufacturers provide with dropper stoppers or brushes for ease of use. Fukortsin has the following composition (active ingredients):

  • boric acid – antiseptic, anti-inflammatory substance, has an astringent effect;
  • phenol – a compound with bactericidal and antifungal properties;
  • resorcinol is a substance that has a pronounced antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, dermatoprotective and antiseborrheic effect;
  • basic fuchsin is an aniline synthetic dye with antiseptic and antifungal properties.

Excipients of the solution are:

  • ethanol;
  • acetone;
  • distilled water.

Fukortsin, the indications for use of which are discussed in more detail below, is a product for external use that has a detrimental effect against a wide range of bacterial and fungal pathogens, stopping infectious and inflammatory processes at different stages and promoting the regeneration of damaged tissues.

Brilliant green or brilliant green

Brilliant green was first synthesized in 1879 in Germany as a dye for the chemical industry.

The antiseptic properties of brilliant green were learned only in the next century, when, when staining micropreparations for microscopy, it was discovered that one of the dyes - namely brilliant green - destroys microbes.

In the mid-20th century, brilliant green, durable and cheap to produce, became especially widespread in the Soviet Union.

How does brilliant green work?

Zelenka is also an antiseptic. Used in the form of aqueous or alcoholic solutions to lubricate the skin in case of diseases and injuries. Zelenka does not dry out the skin and is well suited for wound healing.

The mechanism of action of brilliant green is based on the ability to displace hydrogen from compounds necessary to ensure the vital activity of bacteria, thereby blocking further opportunities for the growth and development of putrefactive bacteria

To treat sensitive skin, especially in children, it is better to use antiseptic preparations based on brilliant green (in comparison with iodine)

In a number of bactericidal adhesive plasters, Zelenka is used as an antiseptic impregnation, and the main place of application is fresh postoperative and post-traumatic scars

Interesting observation:

In Russia, Ukraine and Belarus, brilliant green is often used for hooligan attacks. Taxi drivers punish boorish passengers in this way, Hooligans use brilliant green to attack stars and politicians, politicians Mikhail Kasyanov, writer Lyudmila Ulitskaya, Novaya Gazeta journalist Elena Kostyuchenko, translator Dmitry Puchkov, ex-Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Prosecutor General suffered from attacks Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko.

An attack with brilliant green on Russian presidential candidate Alexei Navalny in April 2020 resulted in a burn to the eye, affecting the pupil and cornea.

"Red brilliant green" Fukortsin - application

Fukortsin, whose indications for use include the most common types of skin damage found in everyday life and in nature, is an almost universal antiseptic. Moreover, the drug is effective both for an already developed infectious process and for its prevention in case of a high risk of infection by bacteria or fungi. If you use Fukortsin for the listed lesions, the use of this solution will help to quickly stop inflammation, prevent weeping and speed up healing.

Considering the indications, Fukortsin can be used for self-medication, but you should follow important recommendations:

  • the solution is applied pointwise to the lesions using a cotton swab or cotton swab;
  • Do not apply the product to large areas of skin;
  • It is unacceptable to treat open wounds with medicine (only the edges);
  • after applying the drug, there is likely a feeling of mild burning and itching that goes away after a couple of minutes;
  • Fukortsin treatment can be carried out 2-4 times a day;
  • The product should be used carefully so as not to stain clothes, household items, linen, etc.

Fukortsin for chickenpox

Chickenpox (chickenpox) is a viral disease that affects most people in childhood. A characteristic symptom of the pathology is the appearance of a generalized itchy rash (initially in the form of pink spots, then in the form of papules and vesicles). Fukortsin is often used for children with this disease, but not for the purpose of neutralizing the virus that causes the rash, but to prevent secondary bacterial infection as a result of scratching the inflammatory elements.

Fucorcin can only be applied to pimples that appear due to chickenpox, without affecting healthy skin and mucous membranes, and before doing this, you should obtain the approval of your doctor. The product can somewhat reduce itching and speed up the healing of the rash, which, with the right approach to treatment, goes away without a trace. In addition, thanks to the coloring properties of the drug, new elements can be “marked” in order to track when they stop appearing. This way you can find out when the child is already allowed to communicate with healthy children without the risk of infecting them.

Fukortsin for fungus

“Red brilliant green” is an effective remedy against superficial fungal infections of the skin caused by various types of pathogenic fungi. For this purpose, it is recommended to treat the infected areas of the skin with the drug several times a day until the skin acquires a healthy appearance and structure. If the affected area is large, preference should be given to another external remedy.

Fukortsin or Zelenka for chickenpox?

Chickenpox is predominantly a “childhood” disease, which is tolerated quite easily by this category of patients. As a rule, the child does not need to take any medications by mouth, but daily treatment of new and old rashes with antiseptics is required. For this purpose, Fukortsin or Zelenka are prescribed, and what exactly to use is decided by the parents.

Both drugs dry out the rash well and prevent infection of the opened blisters, so the choice may be determined by other features. So, Zelenka is less toxic, and it is better to use it if there are a lot of rashes and you have to treat large surfaces of the body and mucous membranes. However, Fukortsin is a less persistent dye, so it is washed off faster from the body and is easier to wash off linen and clothes.

Fukortsin - analogues

Fukortsin is an alcoholic antiseptic solution, which has no analogues in terms of its complex of active ingredients. At the same time, based on the therapeutic effect of the drug, you can find many substitute drugs that can be used for the same indications as Castellani liquid. Let us list some analogues of Fukortsin, which are also available in the form of external solutions:

  • Diamond Green;
  • Methylene blue;
  • Chlorhexidine;
  • Saledez;
  • Fucaseptol;
  • iodine, etc.

Fukortsin colorless

Due to the fact that Fukortsin is a red coloring solution, it is very noticeable on the skin and is difficult to wash off. This is a significant drawback of the drug. An alternative could be a similar preparation with identical properties, which has the same composition, but without the inclusion of fuchsin, which gives the solution its color. Colorless Fukortsin is produced in some pharmacies upon request.

Fukortsin or brilliant green - which is better?

Zelenka (brilliant green solution) is a common drug that, similar to Castellani’s liquid, is used for skin lesions, purulent-inflammatory tissue lesions, etc. It is impossible to say unequivocally which of the two drugs - Fukortsin or Zelenka - is more effective, because The effectiveness of drugs is determined by various factors: the type of pathogen, the severity of the lesion, the individual reaction of the body to the components of the drug, etc. However, we note that in terms of antifungal activity, brilliant green is inferior to Fukortsin.

Composition and production of greenery

Zelenka is a green liquid with the smell of alcohol. Its composition is very simple: water, ethanol, brilliant green. An alcohol solution for external use is used in medicine. In Russia, the quality of the antiseptic drug Diamond Green is regulated by regulatory documents.

It has not yet been established precisely whether brilliant green has carcinogenic properties, the effect of which on the human body increases the likelihood of tumors.

“Brilliant green” is obtained from the powder by combining it with alcohol. The powder itself is imported from abroad. And already at our pharmaceutical factories they produce a solution of brilliant green. Most often this is a 1-2% alcohol solution in bottles of 10 ml and above, with a shelf life of two to three years. It has a rich green color. An aqueous solution is also used to wipe damaged skin areas of various types of diseases and injuries.

What is the difference between iodine and brilliant green?

Both drugs are used as antiseptics, but brilliant green does not burn the skin and therefore has a very gentle effect. Iodine causes blood flow to the tissues and thereby regenerates the healing process and makes it much faster.

According to indications for use, brilliant green is often prescribed if the wounds have a bleeding appearance or there is purulent inflammation. This drug is indispensable for disinfecting and treating wounds, scratches, bruises with bleeding points and other places that have protruding blood.

Iodine is used to treat closed contusions, bruises, sprains and non-purulent inflammations. It restores the skin and thereby improves the appearance of the skin, making it healthier.

As for side effects, then:

  • iodine tends to cause allergies, so it is not used on sensitive areas of the skin;

brilliant green has no contraindications, but on open areas of the skin it does not wash off for several days and not everyone may like this visual effect. - Interesting Facts.
