A modern person must be informed and savvy, especially when it comes to health. For example, when such dangerous diseases as periodontitis and periodontal disease occur, it can be quite difficult to find an effective medicine that, as part of complex therapy, will help achieve a positive result. And here the editors of the UltraSmile.ru portal will come to your aid. In today’s material you will learn in detail about such a medicine as “Maraslavin”. It is this drug that will help heal the gums and oral mucosa. But you cannot use it without knowing some nuances, so as not to harm your health. Read the article carefully to understand this issue.
Who produces the drug
This unique combination product of herbal origin or herbal medicine is brought to the market by a company with rich traditions, Sopharma, whose head office is located in Bulgaria. The corporation has existed since 1933, actively invests in research activities, so it can boast of producing truly high-quality and competitively priced medicines. The same “Maraslavin” can be purchased in various pharmacies for only 110-150 rubles. In addition to Maraslavin, for example, the company supplies to different countries of the world such medicine as Tempalgin, which often becomes a permanent “tenant” in the home medicine cabinet and is perceived as a remedy for all ills, or more precisely, for pain of various origins.
Periodontitis
This is one of the most unpleasant diseases caused by inflammation of the periodontium (dental tissue). Periodontitis occurs due to caries, pulpitis or mechanical damage to the integrity of the tooth. As a result, microbes enter the periodontium, causing inflammatory processes of varying severity. The main symptoms of the disease are toothache and looseness. It is impossible to cure periodontitis at home. Traditional methods, consisting of rinsing with various tinctures and decoctions, only temporarily reduce pain. In order to cope with the disease, you definitely need to see a doctor. Treatment methods depend on the severity of the disease and consist of removing microbes from the tooth and gums, filling, physiotherapy, using antibiotics, and in advanced cases, tooth extraction.
Purpose of the medicine: indications for use
As for Maraslavin, it is not as versatile as Tempalgin. It has a clear and fairly narrow list of indications for use. In most cases, the drug is prescribed by a dentist or periodontist if the patient has specific diseases - periodontitis1 or periodontal disease. Most often, the medicine is prescribed as part of complex therapy for the treatment of purulent inflammation and in clinical conditions complicated by the presence of periodontal pockets. The oral mucosa is also treated with the drug after surgical procedures and interventions on soft tissues and gums.

Directions for use and dosage
Treatment with Maraslavin is carried out by a dentist and begins with the removal of supragingival tartar. At the same time, the gum pockets are ventilated using a spray or a stream of warm water.
Then loose cotton swabs, generously moistened with Maraslavin, are inserted into the gum and bone pockets using a probe. To do this, pour 20-25 ml of the drug into a glass vessel, with which cotton swabs are generously moistened, the size of which depends on the width of the alveolar or bone pocket.
Tampons are left in the pockets for 5-6 minutes. This procedure is repeated 5-6 times during the first session, sequentially on each pocket. With each tampon change, it penetrates easier and deeper into the alveolar pocket. The last time, the tampons are left loosely in the pockets until the next session. The patient is warned that if the temperature rises (due to purulent exudation), he can independently remove the tampons and consult a dentist.
At the second session, the tampons remaining after the first session are removed and subgingival tartar is removed. Tampons are inserted into the pocket several times, as during the first session. The last time, tampons are also left in the pockets until the next session.
Treatment is carried out at intervals for 3 months. 17-20 treatment sessions should be performed. The first 5-6 sessions should be carried out at intervals of 24 hours. The following courses of treatment are prescribed by the dentist.
After 5-6 months from the start of treatment, a control examination of the patient is carried out. Regardless of the condition of the gums, the same places on the alveoli are treated 1-2 times (more if necessary) with Maraslavin in order to eliminate possible pathogens. The final examination is carried out 12 months after the start of treatment.

Side effects
Possible: allergic reactions.

pharmachologic effect
Maraslavin is a combined herbal medicine for local use in dentistry. It has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, astringent, local irritant and analgesic effects, improves tissue regeneration.
At the beginning of the course of treatment, the use of the drug causes irritation, hyperemia and swelling of the gum mucosa. The hypertonic solution of Maraslavin helps remove toxic decay products from the gum pockets. Then an increase in the number of collagen fibers is observed, the gum tissue becomes denser, a new epithelium is formed, the normal structure of the gums is restored and the bond between the periodontium and the cement of the tooth root is strengthened.
When treating the hemorrhagic form of periodontal disease, first there is a decrease in swelling and bleeding of the gums, the color of the gums becomes pale and then pale pink, the structure of the gums becomes denser, the gingival papillae become thinner and are gradually pressed against the neck of the tooth at the subenamel-cementum border. Gum pockets shrink or disappear.
With the purulent form of periodontal disease, in the first days there is an increase in the amount of purulent exudate, then gradually its amount decreases until it disappears completely. The gingival papillae are absorbed, the edges of the gums are leveled and pressed tightly against the teeth. Stabilization of tooth mobility occurs.

special instructions
- The patient is recommended to take vitamin-rich foods and additional intake of vitamins A and.
- During the treatment period, you should not eat spicy or irritating foods (garlic, onions, nuts).
- During therapy with Maraslavin, you should not brush your teeth with a toothbrush and toothpaste or use disinfectant liquids to rinse your mouth. You should rinse your mouth with cool water in the morning and evening.
- Prolonged exposure to the sun should be avoided.
Release form
To understand what “Maraslavin” looks like, just look at the photo. The drug is sold in liquid form and is packaged during production in darkened glass bottles of 100 milliliters. This is a red-brown solution that is ready for use. It tastes astringent and sour.
If the patient experiences sensitivity to the components of the drug, which occurs very rarely and manifests itself in the form of allergies or rashes, itching, then it is recommended not to immediately cancel it, but to try diluting the solution 1:1 with water.
Positive properties
This is a powerful antiseptic that has antimicrobial properties, has an anti-inflammatory effect, and can also reduce the intensity of pain. The drug also has good astringent properties, and the wormwood and clove oil contained in it prevent bleeding of the mucous membrane and strengthen the walls of blood vessels and capillaries. The composition is used to quickly restore mucous membranes damaged by periodontal diseases and surgical manipulations, regenerate its cells, increase resistance to bacterial attack, enhance immune status, and increase intercellular metabolism.
The photo shows teeth before and after treatment
Also, some researchers believe that the drug has a positive effect on strengthening the periodontal ligaments with the roots of the teeth, due to which their mobility disappears, and the teeth themselves stop loosening, shifting and falling out.
How to be treated correctly with Maraslavin
It is important to use “Maraslavin” only in accordance with the instructions, and also under the close supervision of a doctor, even though it is over-the-counter. The drug is used in medical practice in different ways.
For mouth rinses
Place a few tablespoons of the solution in your mouth and rinse your mouth thoroughly. You can rinse for as long as you have patience. Repeatability – up to 4-5 times a day.
Often used for rinsing
For applications
You need to moisten a cotton sponge in the composition, apply it to the affected areas of the mucous membrane, and leave for up to 15 minutes. You also need to repeat the procedure 4-5 times a day.
For the rehabilitation of gum pockets
In this case, the application is applied directly by the doctor in the dental office. First, the specialist removes bacterial deposits from the periodontal pockets, and then places tampons soaked in Maraslavin into them. In some cases, the doctor may leave the tampon on for a day, but more often he sequentially applies applications with fresh liquid every 5-10 minutes for 5-6 times. In this way, it is necessary to carry out a whole complex of treatment measures, consisting of 15-20 procedures (usually the medicine is given at intervals, so the treatment is extended over 3-6 months).
The photo shows the sanitation of gum pockets
The final assessment of the result of such treatment will be possible only 12 months after the start of using the drug. Yes, this is a long period of time, but periodontitis and periodontal disease, especially in advanced stages, cannot be cured quickly and permanently without the use of drastic measures (for example, tooth extraction and implantation).
To prevent gum disease
Here it will be enough to dilute a few tablespoons of “Maraslavin” in a glass of water and use this solution as a mouth rinse. You can do the procedure up to 4-5 times a day, but it is better to consult a doctor first.
Remember that an opened bottle of the drug cannot be stored for a long time; if you haven’t used it within one month, you can safely throw it away and buy a fresh one if necessary!
Reviews from those who have already undergone treatment
Both patients themselves and their relatives write about the drug.
Olechka. My mother almost never visited the dentist; she had excellent teeth and did not need a doctor. But one day her gums began to bleed, and then she began to notice that her teeth were a little loose. The dentist said that she had periodontal disease and that it should be treated with Maraslavin. After some time, the result became noticeable. I think that this remedy helps everyone who suffers from periodontal disease.
Mila. My friend is already tired of fighting periodontal disease. Indeed, this is an extremely unpleasant disease. When the doctor started a course of treatment with Maraslavin, she did not immediately feel the effect. The result is visible later, the main thing is to complete the treatment. Maraslavin contains medicinal herbs, which is probably why it is so effective.
Aymal. This medicine helped me in the treatment of periodontitis. After the therapy, I got rid of the gum pockets that were bothering me. My gums stopped hurting and becoming inflamed.
Opinions from patients who use this rinse
Maraslavin is also used for mouth rinsing. To do this, 1 tablespoon of the medicine must be diluted in a glass of water. Those who have used Maraslavin for rinsing have generally positive reviews.
Lenaflo. I had a lot of tartar. Because of this, the gums were very inflamed. At the appointment, the doctor removed all the stones and recommended a course of rinsing with Maraslavin. The doctor said that you need to rinse your mouth 2-3 times a day. I liked that the drug contains many natural ingredients, such as ginger, wormwood decoction and clove fruits. The doctor warned that one bottle would be enough for one course of treatment. I did not like the taste of this drug, but perhaps someone will find it pleasant.
Catherine. The dentist said that in my case I need to rinse my mouth with an undiluted solution. I've been using it for several days now and I'm seeing results. Of course, the medicine has an unpleasant taste and it stings the tongue, but the most important thing is that the medicine really helps! Inflammation of the gums decreases, and the pus gradually disappears.
Tatiana. My wisdom tooth hurt badly, but it was not possible to remove it because it had not fully erupted. The doctor said that the tooth would have to be removed later, but for now we just need to relieve the inflammation. The drug is very cheap. It is a bitter, cloudy liquid. I diluted it in water and rinsed it after every meal. I'm happy with the result, the inflammation has gone away.
Although Maraslavin is available without a prescription, you should consult your doctor before purchasing it. If you do not skip visits to the dentist and rinse your mouth with Maraslavin at home on time, you can achieve very good results with its help.
What are the contraindications
Apart from individual intolerance to the components of the drug and the age of patients under 18 years of age, the manufacturer does not identify any group of patients for whom treatment with the drug is completely contraindicated. The use of the drug does not cause any negative reactions, does not affect the enamel and dentin of the teeth, does not cause harm to the body and cannot cause intoxication or overdose (unless, of course, you swallow the liquid, which is generally contraindicated).
There are also no clear contraindications for pregnant women and those women who are breastfeeding small children. It is only said that no reliable studies have been conducted on these groups of patients, therefore the advisability of treatment with the solution should be determined based on the individual clinical situation.
Rules to follow for the effectiveness of treatment with Maraslavin
When using this drug, doctors advise patients to also follow a set of measures at home so that the treatment goes well.
First, you need to impose restrictions on your diet. To avoid further injury to your gums and to allow them to recover as quickly as possible, eat mostly soft, non-spicy, non-salty, not too hot or cold foods. Conversely, introduce foods rich in vitamins A and C into your diet.
After the procedure you need to take soft, warm food
Secondly, during the period of treatment with the solution (especially in cases where it is placed in periodontal pockets), it is undesirable to use a brush and paste, as well as mouth rinses; it will only be enough to rinse your mouth thoroughly with warm or cool water.
How is the treatment carried out?
Stages of treatment in the dentist's office:
- First, the doctor removes dental deposits – plaque and tartar.
- After this, he moistens small cotton swabs with Maraslavin solution and carefully inserts them into the periodontal pockets.
- The patient sits with tampons for 5 minutes.
- The procedure is repeated 5 times. For the last time, the doctor does not remove the tampons, but leaves them in the patient’s mouth until the next visit. With purulent periodontitis or periodontal disease, a person may have a fever the day after the procedure. If this happens, you need to remove the tampons yourself and immediately contact your dentist.
- During the second visit, the doctor removes subgingival tartar. He inserts tampons in the same way, 5 times for 5 minutes, and leaves the last time in the periodontal pockets.
- The course of treatment is long. The first few sessions are carried out every other day, and then the interval increases by 3 months. There are about 20 sessions in total.
- After completing the course of treatment, a follow-up examination of the patient is scheduled six months later to assess the condition of his gums.
Reviews about the drug
“My grandmother was prescribed Maraslavin by her dentist for the treatment of purulent periodontal disease. The doctor herself put the medicine in, at first only at the appointment, then sent her home with it (placed tampons in the periodontal pockets for 24 hours). But one day my grandmother’s temperature began to rise and everything in her mouth began to hurt. We read in the instructions for use that this can happen if the pus does not drain well due to the tight fit of the tampons and you just need to remove them. This is what the doctor did the next day. Despite this small minus, the grandmother endured the long period of treatment quite easily; during the entire period we bought the solution 3-4 times. In principle, its price is not that high, so there were no special expenses.”
Elya@1986, review from correspondence from the woman.ru forum
“It didn’t suit me at all, because... Irritation of the gums immediately began, the mucous membranes swollen, and there was terrible itching. Therefore, I don’t believe those who say that there are practically no reactions to this cute and harmless drug!”
