.

and many others.

Visible teeth coverings can be made into any desired shape. For example, Beyoncé decided that “vampire fangs” made of white gold suited her very well, and Rihanna ordered overlays for her teeth that imitate a machine gun in their shape.

So, what exactly are grills, why are they needed and is it safe to wear them? This article aims to answer these and other questions.

General overview

The main meaning and type of the product lies in the English name “grills”, i.e. "lattices". In fact, this is true, because these are metal grilles covering the outer side of the upper or lower dentition. But in the process of modernization, their appearance has undergone some changes thanks to modern technologies, materials and fashion trends. But the name remained the same.

Simply put, grills are beautiful dental veneers made from precious metals or high-quality alloys.

An onlay can be made for one unit, or for a full row of teeth or its central part. Any decoration is possible: simple, original, with gems or gold. What are they for: to create a certain image or decorate a smile?

What can you glue vampire fangs to?

To grow fangs from artificial nails, you will need to purchase nails and dental wax, sold at any pharmacy store. It is better to choose the color so that the fangs do not differ much from the color of natural enamel.

Then you should make and fix the inlays on the teeth, for which you need to do the following:

  • make a blank by cutting it out of a false nail;
  • sharpen the workpiece with a nail file to the required size and give the fangs the correct shape;
  • If desired, you can apply a little red food coloring along the edges of the false teeth to give the vampire jaw even more ominous bloodiness;
  • for fastening, adhesive wax is applied to the surface of the tooth and in a small amount to artificial fangs (the wax will not cause any harm to a person, and its effect will weaken a few hours after application, so if necessary, the lining can be removed quite simply);
  • then you should press the workpiece to the enamel and hold for several minutes.

The advantages of this method are obvious: teeth are made quite quickly, all the ingredients are easy to get in any store and they are cheap.

However, this option also has a disadvantage - traces of wax will remain on the enamel for several more days until they are completely washed off.

First of all, you need to purchase artificial nails and dental wax.

  1. It is recommended to choose nails the color of your teeth, or the closest shade. These items can be purchased at the pharmacy. You can also use base or dental wax.
  2. Give your nails a triangular shape that resembles a vampire fang. To do this you need to use scissors. Place a plastic fingernail against the tooth to determine how large the tooth will be.
  3. Use a nail file to file your nails and give them a sharp shape. It is recommended to do this over a newspaper so as not to litter the room.
  4. When the tooth is ready, you need to coat the back side with dental wax. After this, the canine can be glued to your tooth, supporting it for about 5 minutes. Repeat the same action with the other tooth.

The use of special plasticine

This method will require slightly more expensive ingredients, but the end result will be fangs that are no different from store-bought horror stories and, in fact, real vampire fangs.

To make it, you will need to buy environmentally friendly plasticine, safe for health, which is sold in any children's store, or purchase polymer clay, which in its properties resembles the same plasticine.

The manufacturing method is as follows:

  • white plasticine is mixed with the addition of a small piece of yellow to give it a natural tooth shade;
  • two fangs should be sculpted from the resulting viscous mass; it is usually recommended to make blanks twice as long as real teeth;
  • You can also use dental glue or false nail fixation for attachment.

Plasticine fangs will be quite fragile. You have to be careful with them so that the vampire, at any moment, is not left without teeth. Products made from polymer clay will be stronger, but they must first be subjected to heat treatment, which will require additional effort and time.

The advantage of this option is that such fangs will look better than their counterparts made from other materials.

Plastic fork

The basis is a standard plastic fork. The central teeth are carefully filed, and the handle is cut perpendicularly in the same way.

The end result is a piece of vampire jaw that is glued to the front teeth with dental wax. Please note that the adhesive should be applied to the concave side of the fork and secured to the jaw so that an even number of natural teeth remain in the opening between the fangs.

The advantage of this method is that, especially in the dark, the long teeth of a fork will look like ominous sharp vampire fangs, but you should be extremely careful with plastic utensils, because their sharp edges may well scratch the oral cavity.

How to make teeth grills

The highest quality and safest products are undoubtedly made to individual sizes, taking into account all the features of the structure and location of the client’s teeth. Stamped structures cannot always be selected successfully so that they ideally match the characteristics of the dentition. In addition, the material used may not be suitable.

Be sure to consult with your dentist if you decide to purchase decorative onlays for your teeth. Only an experienced specialist can give advice on which models to choose and how to care for them in order to avoid infection and possible inflammation.

A glimpse into history

Grillz first appeared on the American horizon, adorning the aspiring rap star Just-Ice, in the 80s of the last century. They were invented by a dentist from Atlanta, Eddie Plain. The novelty did not go unnoticed and soon gained sufficient popularity.

As a result, they began to be widely used by rappers, hip-hoppers, models, presenters, actors and singers. And everyone tried to stand out with more and more original decor of the overlays in order to be more memorable to their fans.

Safety rules for wearing grillz

Wearing grills is actually far from the most useful activity. There are many pitfalls here - from allergies to cheap metals used for reasons of economy to make onlays, to the development of serious periodontal diseases as a result of poor oral hygiene, complicated by the use of jewelry. You should also be wary of injuries to the gums and lips from inlays; thinning, cracks and chips of enamel; increased proliferation of bacteria that cause caries; constant irritation of the gums and contacts, as well as a fairly extensive list of specific problems. But it is quite possible to minimize risks if you follow certain recommendations:

  • use only removable grills, not permanent ones;
  • Clean your jewelry every time before and after wearing it;
  • Do not use cleaning agents that are potentially hazardous to health when cleaning grills;
  • Brush your teeth before putting on the guard and after removing it;
  • be sure to remove jewelry before eating;
  • Buy grills that are FDA approved.

Attention!

If you notice redness, swelling, or pain in your gums, stop wearing your grill and contact your dentist immediately. When going to your appointment, do not forget to take the patch with you, perhaps this will make the diagnosis easier.

Where can you make grills?

You can order custom-made overlays in special dental clinics with highly qualified and experienced specialists.

The stamped version is sold mainly through online stores. However, before purchasing, make sure of the quality of the products offered and the availability of supporting certificates.

Manufacturing features and cost of grills

You can purchase grills online (stamped) or order them from your dentist based on individual measurements. Online stores offer a standard fashion range. When selecting in this case, it is important to take into account the material, size, and carefully check product certificates. When the seller cannot vouch for the quality, you should look for another store. The best way out is to contact an orthodontist who will make custom-made structures.

Individual production of grills requires the highest quality results, but can be time consuming. To place decorations you should:

  • choose a clinic whose list of services includes the manufacture and installation of grills,
  • make an appointment with a specialist who will take impressions and discuss the nuances of manufacturing the structure (material, design),
  • wait for the grillza to be made (takes 1-2 weeks),
  • try it on and pick it up, or, if necessary, leave it to the specialist for correction and pick it up later.

The cost of grills is determined by several factors - the selected material, the complexity of making impressions and the design itself (the presence of engraving, cutouts, notches, spraying). It ranges from $50 to $50,000. The most expensive accessories are made of gold and platinum, inlaid with gems and diamonds.

Metals used

For the production of grills the following are used:

  • silver is a disinfecting material, so it can be used for constant wear;
  • gold is an expensive and sophisticated option. Gold grills on the teeth, inlaid with precious stones, look rich and luxurious;
  • an alloy of chromium and nickel is the most accessible, cheapest and safest option, but if worn constantly, the metal can oxidize and lead to undesirable consequences. Recommended for temporary use.

The following instructions will help you to properly put on and take off your grills. Before purchasing, be sure to weigh the pros and cons, and feel free to go shopping. Live brightly and with pleasure!
