Indications

Dental crown prosthetics are recommended in the following cases:

  • congenital anomalies (erasure of enamel);
  • restoration of the anatomical shape of a tooth destroyed by caries (in the presence of a healthy, strong root for a pin);
  • interdental gaps;
  • protection of the root filling is necessary;
  • progressive destruction of the unit due to non-carious lesions;
  • complete loss of a lateral tooth or incisor due to periodontitis;
  • replacement of installed crowns.

So, what are Duceram plus crowns?

Duceram plus is a ceramic mass that is used for the manufacture of ceramic and metal-ceramic crowns. Dutseram plus is a high-quality and durable material with a wide variety of colors that will last you for many years.

Dutseram is distinguished by its excellent connection with all dental alloys; no chips or deformations are formed. Also, Dutseram plus is an improved material that has been developed and improved since 1985.

The material has proven itself in aesthetic and clinical respects. Duceram Plus is used with all dental alloys. Please note that almost all ceramic restorations can be performed using this material. Now let’s talk about how to apply and create Duceram plus crowns!

Types of metal-ceramic crowns

Metal-ceramic crowns vary depending on the metal used for the base. Today, three types of materials are used2:

  • alloys of base metals: cobalt, nickel, chromium - this is the most budget option, which most often causes allergies and can lead to discoloration of the gums (the mucous membrane darkens when in contact with metal),
  • alloys of noble metals: gold, palladium, platinum - a more expensive option, but does not cause allergies, in addition, these metals have antibacterial properties,
  • titanium: a material that has recently begun to be used in dentistry. Quite expensive, but does not reject, does not lose its shape, does not cause allergic reactions, since it is completely compatible with our body (used for the manufacture of dental implants).

The emphasis is on high quality dentures, which is why we offer our clients the option of installing metal-ceramic crowns with a shoulder mass or a shoulder. The outer layer of ceramic is not interrupted at the base, but bends and covers the metal.

Expert opinion
Vasin Yuri Aleksandrovich Orthopedic dentist Work experience 29+

“The main disadvantages of metal-ceramics are the likelihood of developing an allergic reaction and blue discoloration of the gums that come into contact with the metal. However, crowns with a ledge allow you to hide the metal base and even if the gums sag, it will not be noticeable. At the same time, the mucous membrane itself will not change its shade, since contact with metal is excluded. In addition, this option reduces the risk of allergic reactions.”

Advantages

  • strength and durability,
  • quite high aesthetics - the color of the ceramics is matched to the shade of the enamel of living teeth,
  • ability to withstand heavy chewing loads - no need to follow a diet,
  • affordable price.

Flaws

  • not recommended for front teeth - the dark base is visible to light,
  • it is possible to wear down living teeth, since metals are much stronger than enamel,
  • Ceramics become brittle over time - chipping is possible,
  • allergic reactions to metals are possible,
  • when in contact with metal, the gums may turn blue,
  • When the gums sag, the metal base becomes noticeable.

Features of installing crowns

Metal-ceramic crowns are installed both on natural teeth and on implants. But if living teeth are used as support, there are several features of this prosthetics:

  • preservation of the dental nerve: the main task of our dentists is to keep the patient’s tooth alive for as long as possible, therefore, if possible, the nerve is preserved. However, when fixing a metal-ceramic crown, the dental pulp is still removed when the prosthesis is close - there is a high risk of nerve inflammation. In this case, the crown will have to be removed, the pulp will have to be removed, and the tooth will have to be re-prosthetized. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to re-attach the crown,
  • strengthening your own tooth: in the absence of a dental nerve and part of the apex that could become a support for the crown, it is necessary to strengthen and build up the tooth. In this case, a metal pin or stump inlay is used - it follows the contours of the tooth root and has a small “cap” that rises above the gum. It is this base that is used to attach a crown or dental bridge. This option increases the cost of treatment and lengthens the time it takes to complete it, but can significantly extend the service life of both the tooth itself and the fixed crown.

Otherwise, the stages of treatment are universal: crowns are created in the laboratory using impressions taken in advance, and fixation to the prepared tooth is carried out using a special composite glue-cement.

Technique for applying ceramic layers

The metal frame is processed in the usual way. The surface is treated with aluminum oxide, after which the frame is oxidized and then the oxide is removed (if there are no other recommendations for the alloy). Standard layering includes opaquer, dentine and incisal materials. The frame coating begins with Dutser plus neutral mass. It is applied as a covering layer to the dry framework using a brush for the paste opaquer Duceram, thereby achieving a uniform coverage of the framework.

The neutral mass should be applied in a good covering layer. Firing is in progress. Next, an opaque of the desired color is applied; it can be used with opaque modifiers to obtain the exact individual color of the patient’s teeth. Then firing is carried out again.

Next, dentin mass is applied to form a certain tooth shape; this layer is very well modeled, which allows you to quickly produce the desired tooth shape. This layer is modeled as closely as possible to the original, although it is made a little larger than the original; during the firing process, the mass shrinks. Next, an enamel mass is applied, as close as possible in color to the patient’s natural teeth. This is the last and final layer. After which the crown is sent for firing.

Next, the crown is ground and polished, and the shape is also adjusted. A correction layer is applied to accurately recreate the characteristics of the teeth. Re-firing is carried out. Then the contact points are ground to ensure a good fit of the crown. The crown is adjusted and final polished.

After all manipulations are completed, glaze is applied to the crown and it is fired. The finished crown has a vibrant shine and naturalness. After creating the crown, it is installed; as you understand, crowns are made individually!

Undoubted Advantages of Dutsera Plus :

  • These are, of course, high aesthetic properties;
  • A durable, durable ceramic coating that will undoubtedly serve you for a couple of decades or even more;
  • Greater hygiene of the product;
  • Durability thanks to a special alloy;
  • Great resemblance to natural teeth (only a dentist can tell the difference).

Subtleties of care and recommendations

The features of caring for installed ceramic teeth are virtually identical to caring for natural teeth. Thus, it is recommended to take care of thorough cleaning of the oral cavity twice a day, followed by the use of dental floss. Between meals, substances prescribed by the doctor must be used for regular rinsing. In some cases, it is still possible to rinse using purified tap water. Regularly every six months, it is necessary to organize professional teeth cleaning at the dentist in Rodin.

Important: if certain difficulties arise during the operation of ceramic crowns, they must be eliminated immediately. Thus, common cases of swelling or pain in the gums are easily eliminated with little effort from the treating dentist.

In order to immediately eliminate existing pain, it is recommended to immediately make an appointment with a dentist at Rodin. The dental clinic provides potential clients with an exemplary level of service, a flexible pricing policy, and advanced dental technologies.
