Dentin pigment (the main substance of the tooth), which is located under the enamel, is responsible for the whiteness of teeth.
Dentin has a gray or yellowish color. Enamel performs a protective function; it is dense, smooth and shiny, but has a porous structure, so natural and artificial dyes of products can easily penetrate through it. As we age, the enamel becomes dull, weakened and thinned due to the loss of minerals, making it more translucent. And through it, naturally yellowish-gray dentin becomes visible, which, in combination with thinned enamel, gives the effect of “senile teeth”. A brown coating forms on the enamel itself (especially on the inside of the tooth) from dark-colored foods. If your “native” pigment is light, then professional teeth cleaning is sufficient. If it is dark, you can undergo a bleaching procedure . Having healthy and white teeth is considered a sign of health and good care of them. Many people resort to artificial teeth whitening - the “Hollywood smile” is considered an indicator of status, which is important for many.
There are several methods of professional whitening: Zoom, Amazing White, Youtuel. Before the procedure, the desired shade is selected using a color scale. Dentists stand for natural white teeth, which is not noticeable and makes your smile radiant.
A necessary step in preparation for this procedure is professional cleaning - it removes plaque, tartar, and the teeth are polished and fluoridated in the process. You also need to take a course to strengthen tooth enamel - pastes or gels based on mineralizing substances are used. Those who have undergone teeth whitening are interested in maintaining the effect for as long as possible. For this purpose, dentists recommend a white or transparent diet.
The white diet after teeth whitening has nothing to do with losing weight - these are recommendations for preserving and consolidating the effect of dental procedures for a longer period. Special nutrition is aimed at protecting bleached enamel from dark-colored products, especially in the first days after the procedure, when it is receptive and easily “absorbs” foreign shades.
During treatment, the enamel pores open and remain in this state for 24-48 hours after the procedure. Therefore, these restrictions must be strictly followed for the first 48 hours, or better yet, completely for the first week. After bleaching, the enamel becomes thinner and microcracks form on it. It takes about a week to strengthen it - this explains the timing of the strict restrictions.
Then, for the next two weeks, these products can be consumed with restrictions. Drinks may be consumed through a straw so that they do not touch the teeth. The effect of the procedure lasts from 3 to 12 months. It depends on the porosity of your teeth and the lifestyle you lead (smoking, drinking colored drinks and foods). By eliminating foods with aggressive dyes from your diet, you can keep your teeth white for a long time.
The following rules are also recommended:
- Brush your teeth thoroughly after every meal or liquid, using toothpaste and other oral care products high in fluoride. Pastes and rinses should not be brightly colored.
- Get rid of the smoking habit.
- If your teeth hurt for some time after whitening, you can use painkillers and protective gels (for two hours or overnight). During this period, you should avoid excessively hot and cold food, use a cocktail straw.
- Limit the use of lipstick, and it is advisable to forget about bright colors for the first 10-14 days. The white diet excludes the following foods from the diet:
- black and green tea. By the way, it is green tea that causes plaque to form on teeth extremely quickly. This product should also be excluded from the white diet so that your teeth do not darken after whitening;
- bright sauces: tomato, soy, adjika, ketchup, etc.;
- coffee, cocoa are obvious stop drinks of a transparent diet;
- colored fruits: plums, dark grapes, red apples;
- fruit and vegetable juices, compote, fruit drink;
- chocolate, lollipops, dragees;
- citrus;
- jam;
- egg yolk;
- red wine.

Contraindications
In the process of losing weight on a white diet, the body receives a lot of calcium and little fat. Sticking to the program for more than a week is dangerous to your health. If it is not possible to achieve the desired result, the course is repeated only after a month.
Contraindications are:
- diseases of the digestive tract;
- intolerance to protein, individual components of permitted products;
- pregnancy;
- lactation;
- tendency to form stones in the kidneys, gall bladder, ducts;
- children under 18 years of age;
- renal failure;
- liver pathologies;
- recovery period after a serious illness.
When choosing a diet, you need to take into account not only personal food preferences, but also the individual characteristics of the body. If you have chronic diseases, consultation with specialists is required.
Fully or partially limited products
- Black tea, cocoa, hibiscus tea, herbal teas and infusions, coffee, colored tonics, Coca-Cola and others. After a while, drink drinks not hot (the higher the temperature, the greater the effect of pigments), weakly brewed and with the addition of milk. If you cannot do without colored carbonated waters, the dyes of which easily penetrate into tooth tissue, drink them through a straw.
- Sour fruits, lemon juice and other citrus juices - organic acids have an adverse effect on enamel after whitening.
- Juices, berry fruit drinks, colored fruit compotes, dark wine. The latter contains chromogens, tannins and plant polyphenol pigments, which are highly staining to teeth.
- Brightly colored vegetables, fruits and berries: beets, blueberries, carrots, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, mulberries, cranberries, dark grapes, cherries, currants. Over time, you will still have to consume these fruits and vegetables in your daily life, so after eating them, rinse your mouth, or better yet, brush your teeth.
- Chocolate, caramel, candies and ice cream containing dyes.
- Soy sauce, adjika, tomato, beetroot, carrot juice, tomato paste, curry. Try not to use such sauces and seasonings in your everyday meals - salads can be seasoned with lemon juice and vegetable oil.

What are we going to eat?
As mentioned above, the essence of this diet is to eat white foods. Of course, first of all we are talking about milk, which, according to this nutritional system, must be consumed in a strictly defined sequence in the diet.
Despite the fact that the white diet for weight loss is based on dairy products, unfortunately, not all of them can be used in your diet. If their fat content exceeds 4%, it is very unlikely that you will get even a “microscopic” result after completing the diet. Moreover, in this case you risk gaining a couple more kilograms in addition to the existing excess.
This diet can be perfectly supplemented with chicken and quail eggs, a full range of fermented milk, which contains many bifidobacteria beneficial to the body, dishes from various cereals, a variety of vegetables (both fresh and boiled, except potatoes), as well as fruits. As for fruits, it is not recommended to consume those that contain ascorbic acid in large quantities. You will also have to avoid sour fruits. It is allowed to diversify the menu with apples (only sweet varieties), pears, peaches, and bananas. Of the dried fruits, only raisins and prunes are acceptable. They can replace fresh fruits.
