When should I make an appointment with an orthodontist?

Orthodontics

You can make an appointment with an orthodontist on any day - the CELT clinic team employs two specialists who are ready to fight with you for the beauty and health of your smile. They use only the most modern technologies - removable and non-removable structures for baby and molar teeth, plates for correcting bites in children, comfortable simulators for the temporomandibular joints (TMJ).

Dental defects are a systemic problem that requires in-depth research. In the orthodontic department of the CELT clinic, you and your child will find the most relevant help: they do not work “spotwise” (cosmetic correction, not eliminating the causes), a beautiful healthy smile will remain with you forever.

Why shouldn't you put off visiting the orthodontist? Because disruption of the healthy jaw closing mechanism or problems with the jaw joints lead to serious consequences. Delayed treatment of periodontal diseases (diseases associated with the dentofacial area) is:

  • overload on certain areas of the dentition (resulting in increased tooth abrasion, loosening of roots, caries, inflammatory processes in soft tissues);
  • "distortion" of the smile - a decrease in the aesthetic effect;
  • high risk of caries, pulpitis and other dental diseases that can be prevented by an orthodontist.

The competence of an orthodontist includes the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of any dentoalveolar deformities. The ultimate goal of the work of such a specialist is to ensure ideal closure of the teeth and jaws and the formation of the correct bite. This has important physiological significance, since it directly affects the quality of chewing food. In addition, a correct bite is an essential component of an attractive smile.

Indications for scheduling a consultation

The reason for a visit to dentistry to an orthodontist should be:

  • abrasion of teeth, clicking when opening the mouth;
  • uneven teeth;
  • crowding of teeth or, conversely, too wide gaps between them;
  • any other changes in the dentition, impaired diction, missing teeth;
  • no need to look for a reason to visit an orthodontist, schedule your visit.

In addition, periodic preventive examinations in children are of utmost importance. Of course, the services of an orthodontist for adults will also be effective, but the doctors at SM-Dentistry recommend visiting an orthodontist for the first time since the growth of baby teeth begins. The sooner the correction begins, the longer, more pronounced and successful its result will be. This is explained by the fact that the child’s body has great regenerative abilities, and its bone structures can still grow quickly and effectively respond to corrective influences. Therefore, periodic preventive examinations of the child will allow timely detection of the presence of disorders and immediate initiation of treatment.

To make an appointment with an orthodontist in Moscow at the SM-Dentistry clinic, call us by phone. Our managers will tell you about the current prices for orthodontic services and for the installation of various types of braces.

How does an appointment with an orthodontist work?

At the initial appointment, a SM-Dentistry specialist examines the patient’s oral cavity and records the identified problems. A plain radiography of the teeth and jaws may be necessary. And after this, the orthodontist draws up a preliminary plan for diagnosing the bite and orthodontic treatment, as well as the necessary preparation for this treatment.

Orthodontic treatment takes some time. Typically, the treatment process consists of two parts: active and retention. During active treatment, the orthodontist corrects dental deformations. Then the retention stage begins, the task of which is to retain and consolidate the results obtained. It is this period that is most important for maintaining the effect of treatment after removing braces or other corrective devices.

Indications for treatment by an orthodontist: adults and children

To avoid long-term treatment and for preventive purposes, dental health should be monitored from childhood. Therefore, our experts recommend that responsible parents contact an orthodontist as early as 6-7 years of age for their child to check for pathologies.

You should urgently contact an orthodontic clinic if you find in your child:

  • visual defects of the dentition;
  • complicated chewing;
  • frequent mouth breathing;
  • the habit of sucking fingers or constantly holding something in the mouth.

These symptoms indicate the formation of a malocclusion and a possible need for treatment by an orthodontist. To determine at what age stage a correction program should be launched, individual studies are necessary. Most often, at an early stage, the problem is solved through removable structures, special simulators and plates.

How is an appointment and treatment with an orthodontist carried out?

Our clinic has created comfortable conditions so that young patients feel safe and trust the doctor. A dental examination in pediatric dentistry by an orthodontist is the same as a regular preventive appointment with a therapist. The doctor will ask the baby to open his mouth, check the correct closure of the teeth, and the correspondence of jaw development to age. If the doctor notices a problem, he will recommend monitoring it, since the problems may disappear on their own during the growth process.

In cases where bite correction is still required, special devices are used for children’s teeth. They are able to change the position of teeth, stimulate the growth of one or both jaws, and their expansion when there is not enough space.

Before the manufacture of orthodontic appliances, an impression of the jaws is made and a plaster model is made.

Malocclusion in adults is not a death sentence

Orthodontics

Discovered bite problems in adulthood (acquired as a result of injury or from childhood) are also not a death sentence today. You can restore straight teeth at almost any age. At the CELT clinic, this practice is available at good prices for orthodontics, which is rare for the capital.

Indications for periodontal treatment in adults are:

  • TMJ diseases;
  • increased abrasion of individual teeth;
  • exposure of roots caused by uneven load;
  • visually noticeable defects (uneven row).

Types of orthodontic appliances

Fixed devices:

  • Retainers are attached to the inside of the teeth and represent an arch that helps maintain the results after braces. A significant advantage is that retainers do not cause discomfort during use.
  • Braces are used to eliminate a wide range of pathologies, including an increase in the distance between teeth, malocclusions, and crooked teeth. There are external and internal bracket systems. The material used is ceramics, sapphires or metal.

Removable devices:

  • Plates – for minor malocclusions, plates made of plastic and metal are used. They are cheap and are used in the treatment of malocclusions in children (less commonly prescribed to adults).
  • Trainers are a silicone mouthguard that needs to be worn for 3 hours a day to straighten teeth with minor deviations from the norm. Gradually, the specialist selects new models with increased hardness, increasing the load to improve the result.
  • Aligners are used to eliminate mild to severe pathologies. They are often prescribed to maintain the achieved results after treatment with braces. They are not conspicuous, as they are a mouth guard made of thin and transparent silicone.
